Decision to expand several roads in the Matara District: Weligama-Telijjawila project included in the 2027 Budget.

A special discussion was held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways, Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, to develop several main roads as a solution to the heavy traffic congestion in the Matara District.

During the meeting, it was decided to include the project to widen the first mile of the Weligama-Telijjawila Road (Galbokka Road) in the 2027 budget proposals. Additionally, agreements were reached to widen the Matara Old Galle Road and the section from Nupe to Kamburugamuwa to four lanes, and to modernize the road from Tihagoda to Mulatiyana. Relevant officials were also instructed to expedite land acquisition and public awareness programs necessary for these projects.
